Welcome to Maranthos
You Hear It Here First
Let me show you something.
This is Maranthos. >
Let me tell you what it took to make it.
I built the map in Wonderdraft — placed every region, every settlement, every dead zone by hand. Then I took it into Photoshop and gave it that sketched, aged quality you see there. Then I had to build a black and white version that kept the depth and dimension of the original without losing anything. Then a colorized sketch version. Two programs. Every layer deliberate.
And then I printed it out and taped it to my desk so I could mark it up while I was writing. Because when your characters are fleeing through the Drowned Reaches at midnight you need to know exactly how far they are from Witchlight Ford.
This world didn't arrive all at once. This book is actually a mashup of ideas I've been turning over for a couple of years — it started as something else entirely, went through more than one identity, and kept feeling wrong until it became what it is now. Too light for the things that happen in it. Too soft for the characters who live in it. Until it wasn't anymore.
When it finally clicked into place it felt like the world exhaled.
So. Maranthos.
To the west — the Shadowfold. Dark forest, the kind that doesn't let light reach the ground. To the south — the Drowned Reaches, where the land meets water in ways that don't make sense anymore. In the north — the Glasswaste and the Iron Marches, cold and broken. And at the center of it all, scarred into the map like a wound that never healed — the Nexus Zero. The Shatterscar. Where everything went wrong three hundred years ago.
Witchlight Ford is a small dot on the eastern edge. Easy to miss.
That's intentional. That's where she's been hiding.
Next week — meet the one who has been watching her.
September 26th is coming fast.
